Canadian Living Holiday Best 2001
To make the mix....
1/2 cup dried cherries or cranberries
2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup sugar
Layer cherries and then 1/2 of the chocolate chips in a 4 cup (1 liter) jar with a tight fitting lid. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Spoon over the chocolate chips. Cut waxed paper to fit over top of the flour layer and come up the sides of the jar. Spoon sugar on top of the paper. Top with remaining chocolate chips and seal the jar. (store for up to 1 month)

Black Forest Brownies
Black forest Brownie Mix
1/3 cup butter
2 tbsp water
1 tsp vanilla
Grease an 8 inch square cake pan. Melt together the top layer of chocolate chips and sugar with butter and water until sugar is dissolved. Let cool. Whisk in eggs one at a time, and then vanilla. Stir in flour mixture, then remaining chocolate chips and cherries. Pour batter into pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
Makes 16 squares. Store in an airtight container or freeze up to a month.
