1. Riding, riding, riding: Pull out that bike!
Hey would you believe that my bike was a gift from an ex-boyfriend for my 21st birthday? 16 years later I'm terrified to ride it, lest it completely fall apart and leave me sitting in the middle of the road in a heap of spare parts. Let's just say it's old and I need a new one.
Want to help with the fight against childhood cancer? From June 2-20, 50 cyclists are traveling across Canada to help raise money. Check out their website to see how far they have traveled, read some of the rider journals, and of course....donate!
Speaking of people biking long distances, the Vogel family is taking off on a 2 1/2 year biking trip from Alaska all the way to Argentina (Yes, you read that right. And you people thought we were crazy for taking a 12 year old on an 8000 km road trip?) The adventure begins on Monday, June 9th when they depart Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Want to follow along vicariously? They'll even be blogging about it!
2. Weird news: Watch out, the World is Ending!
I remember back in 1988 when it was predicted that the world would end...and sure enough, it didn't. So is it any surprise now that someone is predicting that next Thursday there will be a nuclear war? Apparently the prophet also has some legal woes, but I suppose if the world is going to end next week, he doesn't have to worry.
3. Fun Family Happening: In The House Festival
This looks so cool! From June 7-8 on Commercial Drive in Vancouver, performers will be at various houses/backyards offering 14 different shows; puppets, music, dance and theater! Click here for more information about shows and tickets.
Looking for something a little cheaper? Grab your teddy bear and take off to Coquitlam Town Center Stadium for their 19th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic on June 8th. A parade starts the day at Coquitlam Center Mall at 10 am, and then it's loads of bear-ish fun from 11am to 4:30 pm. There's a hands on circus workshop, roving entertainment, and much more! Admission is only $3 and kids under 3 are free!
4. Under the Sea: June 8 is World Oceans Day
Swim on over to Blackie Spit, Crescent Beach in Surrey and check out the celebrations! There's marine animal touch tanks, displays, kayaking, scuba, and interpretive walks. It's all free! Click on over for more information.
If the weather isn't co-operating, celebrate anyway by heading over to the Vancouver Aquarium and check out the cool new frog exhibit
5. Deals for Dad: Father's Day is coming!
Stumped about what to get for Dad? Family Fun has some really cute printable coupons. They have a whole web page dedicated to Dad, with some great ideas for cards and home made gifts. My favorite is the shirt and tie card.
