Spring Break: Day one

I had big plans for this past week. Hubs was off in Calgary and I thought I'd rent some great chick flicks, have piles of time to blog, and hang out with some friends occasionally.

Of course on day two I got sick. Nobody wants to hang out with someone who can't sit/stand/lay down comfortably, and then winds up getting a cold so she sounds like a man, and is sneezing like crazy from pollen allergies. I ended up falling asleep on the couch at 9 pm every night.

And's spring break. Yippee! Yesterday I took Jake to the public library so we could load up on books for the holiday because, if you really must know, reading is the number one form of entertainment in this house.

Anyone who has known me since I was a kid wouldn't be surprised. I was the one who had her nose in a book constantly...I'd read during the walk home, novels would be stashed in my desk to be read covertly while the teacher was talking, I always had a book with me on car rides or later...bus commutes, so that I could read. These days I read via the Internet, but I also have many books that line my shelves. Jake knows that if I take him to Chapters, Mom is a sucker at buying him books and he can get at least one or two out of me. I love books. There's something about a new book-the stiff pages, the smell of new ink, beautiful artwork, that I just can't keep my hands off of.

Jake's favorite Saturday morning activity is being holed up in his bed and reading, surrounded by books. He has stacks of novels in his bed when he sleeps so they are nearby. He won't get into the car without one, and takes at least three to school every day. Losing the TV and computer privilege is bad enough, but if we took away his books that would be an entirely new torture.

So yesterday when we emerged from the library, our arms laden with stacks of books, we looked at each other and giggled.

"Are we related or WHAT?"
