The Shopping Challenge
Could you go 2 whole months without shopping?
A Peek Inside the Fishbowl has issued a challenge...join the great shopping embargo of 2008, and you agree to only buy necessities for your household from Jan 1- Feb 28th.
Are you up to it?
Quite honestly, it doesn't look that hard. We already do many of the suggested things anyway, like brown bagging lunches, borrowing books from the library, and using reuseable canvas shopping bags. What I would really like to do is track my spending, and curb my impulse purchases that Hubs says I "nickel and dime" us with. Jake has even gotten in on the idea and suggested that instead of him purchasing hot lunches at school, he brown bag it too because "your lunches are WAY better anyway, Mom." I can take coffee or tea to work in a thermos, and for upcoming birthdays I can make something or give something that won't eventually end up in a land fill like tickets to a movie or admission to an event.
We don't do Boxing Day, or Black Friday. After Christmas the very last thing I want to do is go and aquire MORE stuff, when all I really want to do is relax with family. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, is worth going out to a store and standing in lines with a zillion other people for. No way!
Of course though I also noticed this very cute Snakefest craft on the Fishbowl too, and I really want to try it out on my new sewing machine. Think a draft stopper (for a very drafty back door) counts as a necessity?
